Plantation Astor Select Fiji Single Cask Rum - 2009

Many people come back from tropical islands looking for rum that you cannot find anywhere but that island. Here is an island that most likely I will never get a chance to travel to so this rum is my chance to experience this remote place. A former French colony, Fiji is a volcanic island which comes through very clearly in the rum. This single cask rum splits the difference between the funkier Jamaican producers and the lighter rum of Barbados. With the volcanically grown sugar cane contributing an almost agricole earthy note. But I should be clear this is made from 100% molasses, but Fiji molasses is known to be lighter & sweeter than other sugar cane producers. For me this a beautiful sipping rum to sit with & contemplate faraway islands with volcanic soil & remote private beaches.
