Staff Pick Notes

Life these days is complicated, so it’s refreshing to have something that will never disappoint, even as the world crumbles. Enter Rodinos Rose from the Tsiakkas Winery, nestled in the Troodos mountains on the island of Cyprus, a long overlooked winemaking region that’s finally getting its due. Tsiakkas was founded in 1988 with the goal of bringing top quality winemaking back to Cyprus after years of decline and its Rodinos collection, one of the first that the winery introduced, is both instantly accessible and surprisingly complex. The rose, made from a blend of Grenache, Shiraz, Vamvakada, and Xynisteri grown on a mix of sandy and volcanic soil, exceeds expectations: aromas of cherry, pomegranate, and white flowers give way to a crisp, mineraly and refreshing palate. Perfect for picnics and unwinding life’s twists and turns.

Let it never be said, however, that Shiraz and Syrah are the same thing: the region in which the grape is grown determines much about the flavor of the wine it will produce. Typically, New World Shiraz yields bigger, fruitier wines than the the peppery Syrahs...
