Staff Pick Notes

Born and raised in Victoria’s Yarra Valley, Mac Forbes has become one of the region’s greatest champions. After a brief stop in France to travel, taste and then harvest in the Rhône. Mac returned to Australia in 2004 and has since focused on producing in some of Yarra Valley’s lesser known subregions and exploring the cool climate Terroir just east of Melbourne. This bottling of Chardonnay is a blend of declassified barrels from grower vineyards and the Mac Forbes single vineyard sites. Bright green apple, lemon and ripe peach prevail throughout the sip. The mineral quality is a touch salted, as we are quite near the coast. The native yeast and barrel fermentation give a rich and delicately smooth texture to this perfectly tart and fresh wine.

Australia

Australian Shiraz (made from the grape called “Syrah” in other parts of the world) shows the essence of the outback: it’s big, bold, and a little rough around the edges. Chardonnay

From Champagne to Chablis, it's hard (not to mention unpleasant) to avoid this famous white variety. It is a flexible, eager-to-please grape, responding well to just about anything a winemaker...

Victoria

The state of Victoria, adjacent to and southeast of South Australia, is Australia’s third-largest producer of wine. Climatically very varied (its higher-altitude vineyards are the coolest in Australia), Victoria is home to the most diverse assortment of vineyards in Australia, with a particular focus on cooler-climate varieties such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Shiraz production tends to be concentrated in the central viticultural regions of Grampians, Pyrenees, and Heathcote, where the...
