A hidden gem that's under the radar. It's an accessible red wine that's complex with dark fruit aromas and is made from Cabernet Franc. The fruit was hand-harvested, destemmed and fermented with native yeast. Aged (60%) in amphorae and 3 year old wood casks before bottling unfiltered.

Staff Pick Notes

Léo Charruau hails from Parnay in the Loire Valley. His family history of farming grapes in the area dating back to the early 1700s. He grew up in the vineyards and spent time in Bordeaux honing his craft. Today Léo works 6.5 hectares of organic vines at the family estate, Domaine du Valbrun. The wine begins with manual harvest and a slow, gentle fermentation with indigenous yeasts. 60% of the wine is aged for 10 months in amphora and 40% in large used oak barrels. This determined approach to elevage brings this wine to an inspiring place. An intense color of blackcurrant, with a similarly full nose of berry, plum and wet rock. the freshness of the fruit in this wine keeps things nimble. There is structure and a touch tannin, but with a light chill, this wine expresses the soft, finessed profile I crave in a Saumur-Champigny Cab Franc

Loire

In fact,...
