Derthona Timorasso, Tenuta Il Bergo - 2022

Item # 49477 750 mL

Timorasso is a native white grape from the Piedmont region of northern Italy. It has been revived, from the verge of extinction, in the past decades and with great distinction. This is dry on the palate with a rich and luscious palate. An aromatic grape that shows a golden hue and floral and citrus aromas. Fresh acidity will make this a stellar pairing with with crab cakes and potato salad.

Staff Pick Notes

Hard to believe that the Timorasso grape faced near extinction in the eighties. Thanks to Walter Massa (whose wines you can often find at Astor) for cultivating his last remaining Timorasso vines and making great wine. Today, you’ll find numerous Piedmont wineries bottling their versions. Tenuta Il Bergo’s bottling shows layers of tasting notes. You may find stewed pears, nutmeg, petrol, dried herbs, pine, and almonds. It has density and slickness on the palate. There is a sharp acidity that will make this age nicely. It’s a very complete wine with florality, minerality, savoriness, and fruitiness. Enjoy with a wedge of Raschera cheese.
