Staff Pick Notes

This summer I've been drinking a lot of Mediterranean wines. Whenever I spend my days off cooking and running whatever errands I need to run, I'm always crushing some wine that is made along the banks of the Mediterranean Sea, give or take. This Assyrtiko, which is a native Greek grape, is bright, mineral-driven, and has a nice orchard fruit character to it. It tastes like sea breeze and is magnificently refreshing. You could easily drink this in the park on a nice day or even pair this with some sushi or a white fish of some kind (grilled, raw, baked - dealer's choice on that one).

More About This Wine

Assyrtiko

Pronounced "a SEER tee ko". This white varietal is native to Santorini and the other Aegean Islands. Used to make crisp dry wines similar in style to dry Riesling, it is often blended with other varietals - both indigenous and international - such as Sauvignon Blanc. This grape is also used to make the popular Greek dessert wine, Vinsanto.
