Catavela, Denavolo - 2023

If you're on your orange wine journey like I am, consider this bottle a must-try. I would consider 'Catavela,' from Azienda Agricola Denavolo, the perfect stepping stone from entry level 'easy oranges' to the more complex and funky orange wines out there. Giulio Armani works with grape varietals native to Emilia-Romagna to create this dry, textured white blend that is biodynamic, unfined/unfiltered, and no added sulfites. The Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, as the name suggests, lends itself to strong aromatic notes of white flowers and tropical fruits. On the palate it is refreshing and zesty...I got notes of yellow apple and fresh oranges. Clay and limestone soil bring awesome minerality to this bottle, and it went beautifully with spicy chicken tacos!
