Staff Pick Notes

I love seeing a new wine arrive at Astor, but a new Syrah (my favorite) from Troon Vineyards? Yes, please! On the nose: blackberry, violets, and layered white and black pepper notes that define the Rhône Valley's most sought-after wines from this variety. Earthy ripe berries, with gracious notes of anise and bittersweet chocolate dance on a medium-bodied palate with balanced tannins and lively acidity. Forever planet-friendly, our dear friends at Troon vineyards “naturally craft wines to bring pleasure to your life, and we’re dedicated to Biodynamics in our quest to put more back than we take from our plants and soils. We believe the only route to memorable wines that reflect the terroir of where they were grown is to be found in the healthy soil and vines that are the foundation of our agriculture.”

In the best of them, the perfect amounts of wind, rain, sun exposure, and altitude combine to give Pinot Noir the warm days and cool nights it needs in order to thrive. Combine that with good drainage and poor soils, and you’ve got the perfect environment...
