Staff Pick Notes

So many gins, so little time, I know, but don’t sleep on this one because it’s a stunner, and an incredibly versatile one at that. Native to Japan, Tibet, and China, and cultivated for centuries, Yuzu is a citrus fruit with complex aromatics that treat us to a heady mix of lemon, grapefruit, mandarin, and kumquat. Yuzu also thrives in Australia, and luckily for us, right down the road from the good folks at Four Pillars. There, with the addition of subtly spicy ginger, turmeric, and Sencha genmaicha, they create this singular spirit with plenty of dry juniper character that will stand up to any cocktail you can dream up. Yuzu fun fact: during the winter solstice in Japan it’s customary to bathe in a tub full of yuzu fruit. If I ever get the chance, you know I’ll be sipping on a Negroni made from this gin while I soak.

Shiraz production tends to be concentrated in the central viticultural regions of Grampians, Pyrenees, and Heathcote, where the...
