Camatti Amaro

Item # 48338 700 mL

One of the many brilliant things about this amaro is that it is complex enough, delivering a satisfying bitter edge but apporachable and light enough to have as an aperitif due to its lower abv. all at once. It all makes sense considering the Genovese terroir it reflects with is famous pastels and coastal riviera energy. Its been made here for a century and it only seems to be better and more relevant than ever.

Staff Pick Notes

When it comes to objective stuff though, there’s no question regionality plays a major role in drinks and food, and Amaro is no exception. Genova is one of my favorite cities and Camatti is a staple of Genovese osterias and bars, showing its coastal Mediterranean origin very clearly. It is complex, with suggestions of bitter orange, mint and an appetizing gentian root tang, yet much lighter and less “barky” and medicinal than Alpine Amari. Works great on ice with a splash of soda as a refreshing aperitivo, and it is a mandatory punctuation for the evening after the game at the Luigi Ferraris. Ti amo Zena. Forza Doria!

One notable exception is the wine made from the idiosyncratic Pigato grape, which yields a softer, more lush wine with distinctive notes of herbs and (we’re not being tongue-and-cheek...
