Staff Pick Notes

Bitten by the wine bug, Eric Nicolas studied oenology and took his passion to the Loire, more specifically Jasnières and the Coteaux-du-Loir, which at the time was seeing major growth. Eric and his wife would nurture the old vines they purchased while planting vines in six villages, spanning 65 parcels. Becoming certified as a biodynamic producer, Eric is all about experimentation while allowing nature to dictate the character of the cuvées. Prémices is a barrel selection of the most fruit forward parcels of each vintage, being the most approachable of the cuvées. While it sometimes can be fermented entirely dry, it is more often an off-dry expression. Full of chamomile, beeswax, pineapple, and honeysuckle, this wine gives off a ton of luscious texture and is very forward in its dense aromatics that just captivates in a beautiful way.

These days, one of the most exciting stories is in South Africa, where newly adopted winemaking technologies have helped a dedicated group of producers to bring the country's dry...
