From a unique parcel of Encruzado located at 500m on the right bank of the Dão, this wine is only made in the best of vintages. Aged entirely in barrel, of which only 20% are new, this spends 10 months on the lees. A rich and textured dry white with aromas of citrus, orchard fruits, and a hint of spice. Pair with porco Alentejana.

Sometimes it's good not to have any expectations. More often than not you end up in the land of pleasant surprises. Encruzado, a native grape from Portugal, doesn't make its way to these shores very often, so what to expect? A wine that will stop you in your tracks. Winemaker Nuno Mira do Ó makes this only in very good years and sets out to find the best possible expression of the soil, climate, and grape. Inspired by the ancient Celtic Druids, he's after harmony and balance with nature. What comes through in the glass is a refined, elegant wine full of flinty wet stone and pear with racy acidity. This has great aging potential, if you have that kind of restraint, but is drinking beautifully now.

Encruzado

A white variety grown usually in the Dão region of Portugal, producing crisp, fragrant wines. It is often blended with other Portuguese grapes like Malvasia Fina and Bical.
