Staff Pick Notes

Familiar with Buzet ? Me either! This appellation in the south west of France is mid-way between the cities of Toulouse and Bordeaux. Red wines here are made from familiar Bordeaux grapes, but with comparatively lower price tags. What Buzet lacks in name recognition it more than makes up for in terms of quality. Domaine du Pech is run by winemaking duo Magali Tissot and Ludovic Bonnelle. Their wines are biodynamic, minimal sulphur is added and no chemicals are used in the vineyards. The "Jarnicoton" is an ode to their natural gardening ethos. This cuvee of Merlot and Cabernet Franc was for aged a year in stainless steel with minimal intervention. Herbs, brambles and currants are on the nose, and it's supple and clean on the palate. A marvelously energetic wine to pair with burgers and on the grill.

In fact,...
