Wine from under the volcano! Sitna Volcano in central Slovakia to be specific, an ancient stratovolcano that was once the largest in Europe. A magical place, home to legends, gold and silver mines, 300 species of roses, and a unique volcanic soil composed of soft tuff (volcanic ash) and hard andesite (volcanic lava). Pesecká leánka has been grown for generations here, its roots penetrating deep into the soil, absorbing the nutrients and minerals it needs to survive. Marek Uhnák strives to create a wine to honor his grandparents here, with skin contact, no chemical use, older oak, and minimal sulfur while utilizing the wild yeasts of the land. What is created is one of the most original orange wines I’ve experienced, with a distinct minerality and a orchard fruit experience that transports you back to pies baked in Grandma's kitchen!
