Staff Pick Notes

With six generations of ownership and winemaking in the family, Domingos Soares Franco has taken his education from his tenure at University of California Davis along with the family's access to 650 hectares of land to experiment with an array of techniques and varietals. Part of the winery's private collection, this dessert wine is made using a rare, indigenous purple Muscat (Muscatel Roxo) and is fortified using a grape brandy made entirely from this dark-fleshed grape. Aged in used oak until its bottling, this is viscous and alluring in the best ways. Orange marmalade, clover honey, peach, apricot, and star anise, this wine is bursting with all manners of tropical fruit while having racy acidity and slight tannic structure to cut through the concentrated sweetness.
