Staff Pick Notes

Nordés Atlantic Galician Gin is something unique to this wall of gins. Coming from the northwest of Spain in the region of Galicia, this gin soaks up its terroir with all its salty goodness. Using an Albariño base for the distillate, a sense of place is already established. Adding local Galician botanicals, such as, sage, bay leaf, lemon verbena, eucalyptus, peppermint and glasswort only emphasizes its closeness to the sea. However, I find the one botanical that really sets this gin apart is the local Salicornia (sea bean) that is used. Along with the Albariño base, the sea bean lends a saline flavor while the gin is still floral and fresh. A perfect accompaniment to a Spanish-style Gin and Tonic with quality tonic, a bulbous glass and a garnish of grapefruit peel, mint and pink peppercorn.
