Staff Pick Notes

Winemakers Macarena del Río and Thomas Payrare founded Macatho in 2016. They purchase their grapes from neighbors at a fair price (above the market value), which allows both access to very old vines and leverage to push their neighbors towards organic and regenerative agriculture. Toca Tierra shows a very compelling side of the grape Pais. It is light bodied and pleasantly tannic, earthy and a bit smoky, but ultimately fruit forward with notes of dusty plums and chocolate covered raspberries. It registers as very dry, almost a bit ethereal for a red, but is bursting with character. Give the bottle a light chill, and yourself a couple of glasses to examine everything it has to offer.
