Staff Pick Notes

This wine is a rare opportunity to drink a well-aged Greek red in its peak drinking window. Periklis and Stergios Tatsis have been on the vanguard of natural winemaking in Greece, exclusively using native yeasts, minimal sulfur, and organic grapes since the late 90s from their estate in Macedonia. With all that, they make some very serious wine. Here, a mix of blackberry, dried cherries, and violets greets you on the nose, while on the palate secondary and tertiary notes like balsamic, olive tapenade, tomato leaf, and black pepper come through in waves. A rustic, savory blend of the indigenous grapes Xinomavro (70%) and Negoska (30%). You will be in heaven drinking it with herbed lamb and potatoes.

Glossary

Xynomavro

Pronounced "ksee NO ma vro", this is one of Greeceā€™s most important red varietals. The primary grape of Naoussa, this grape produces wines of extraordinary depth and complexity. Frequently likened to Nebbiolo, these wines are dark and tannic in their youth, and benefit immensely from ageing. Typical aromas are black olive, cooking spices, earth, and black fruit.
