Staff Pick Notes

A superb Left-Bank Bordeaux composed of 68% sauvignon blanc and 32% sémillon from a Bordelaise dynasty family worth knowing about. With a history dating back to the 17th century in the commune of Cadaujac, Château Bouscaut has been in the expert hands of the Lurton family since 1979. The estate is only one of 16 with the prestigious Grand Cru Classé de Graves designation, which is awarded to châteaux that produce consistently high-quality wines. This expression is a full-bodied white Bordeaux that I’ve found to be exceptional; it balances vibrant acidity with just the right amount of oak influence, never letting one component take over completely. Notes of mango, passion fruit, melon, peach, nectarine, vanilla, and a flinty minerality are all present and help to keep the wine interesting and enjoyable on the palate.

For white Bordeaux, only three varieties are permitted: Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillion, and Muscadelle. The exact percentages of each grape variety used in any...
