Confondo Bianco Méthode Ancestrale, Buccia Nera - 2020

Item # 44119 750 mL

Buccia Nera is a family-run farm located in Campriano. The Mancini family set down roots in Tuscany in 1926 and today, Sandro Mancini heads the farm which is adjacent to a forest. This is a Pét-Nat that resembles a hefeweizen beer in many ways: visually, texturally and aromatically. It's aromatic, sparkling and delicious.

Staff Pick Notes

This is a really fun natural sparkler. Light, fizzy and super refreshing, this drinks like a pilsner only somehow even lighter on the palate. Aromatic grapes like Traminer and Malvasia keep things interesting with notes of mandarin oranges that stay with you through a medium-long finish. This being a col fondo wine, you'll find some spent yeast cells at the bottom of the bottle - nothing to be afraid of! They add texture and complexity long after fermentation finishes. Chill this bottle well, and drink it outside if that's in the cards. This is as clear of a pizza companion as we have to offer, but would also be fantastic alongside fried chicken.

Chardonnay

From Champagne to Chablis, it's hard (not to mention unpleasant) to avoid this famous white variety. During a huge popularity surge beginning in the late 1980s, Chardonnay plantings have increased dramatically -- not only in California's wine country, with which the variety is nearly synonymous, but also in Burgundy (its original, Old World home) and just about everywhere else in the winemaking world. It is a flexible, eager-to-please grape, responding well to just about anything a winemaker...

Pinot Grigio is an Italian synonym for the French Pinot Gris variety, but many more people have had Pinot Grigio than a Pinot Gris. At its most basic level, the grape produces varietals that are smooth and easy to drink, and perfect with a huge range of dishes that just beg to be paired with a fresh white wine. There is an entire spectrum of Pinot Gris/Grigio, however, the best of them being subtly aromatic and deeply colored, with formidable structures. Most of Italy's Pinot Grigio is grown in...

Tuscany

When you think of Tuscan wine, think of Sangiovese, the grape that is common to most great Tuscan reds (Vernaccia is the only white wine made here). Brunello di Montalcino, one of the most complex expressions of Sangiovese, has the best aging potential. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano shows the softer side of the grape, containing up to 20% of other varieties. Young Chianti often smells of fresh fruit and herbs, while Chianti Classico Riserva can be dark and brooding. The term “Super Tuscans”...
