Anjou Blanc "Terre des Grès," Bois Brincon - 2017

Item # 43957 750mL

The Terre de Grès of Château de Bois-Brinçon represents 1.5 hectares of chenin blanc grown on chalky, tuffeau soils. The grapes are picked by hand, rigorously sorted, whereby all botrytised grapes are eschewed. Whole bunches undergo a slow and gentle pressing (between 8 and 10 hours), after which native yeast fermentation occurs in neutral barrels.

Staff Pick Notes

This Anjou Blanc comes from a domaine first founded in 1219. Wrested from the hand of the Catholic Church during the French Revolution, this property was sold to laypeople. This Terre des Grès is a great example of what the combination of great Chenin Blanc vines and chalky limestone soils can do. All of the grapes are handpicked, and no botrytis is present, offering pure fruit freshness. The wine is fermented and aged in neutral barrels, with battonage giving a rich texture. Yes, this wine tastes like seashells! It has a salty, mineral quality that is beautifully integrated into the stone fruit aromas.

Chenin Blanc

A versatile grape that is grown worldwide, but is most commonly associated with the Loire, California, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. These days, one of the most exciting stories is in South Africa, where newly adopted winemaking technologies have helped a dedicated group of producers to bring the country's dry...
