Gamay Quatre Saisons, Bernard Vallette - 2021

Item # 43250 750 mL

From the deep south of Beaujolais in the village of Lachassagne, where the soils are clay and limestone as opposed to granite, Bernard Vallette is farming 6 ha passed down through his family from his grandparents. The grapes are hand-harvested, fermented with native yeasts using carbonic maceration and a comparatively lengthy aging in stainless steel. The resulting wines are charming and immensely drinkable in their youth, but also develop nicely with a few years of age.

Staff Pick Notes

The Bernard Vallette Beaujolais Quatre Saisons is truly a wine for all four seasons. Equally delightful in front of a fire during the winter and served slightly chilled in summer. A joy to drink while buds break during spring, those first warm days making you yearn for more, and so pleasurable when that first autumn chill hits the air, like drinking a warm hug. This Gamay is what they all strive to be: light, vibrant, utterly quaffable. Pomegranate, red currant, freeze dried raspberry, and tart red cherry take the lead, making way for crushed rock minerality. A true year-round crowd pleaser, stock up now!

Burgundy

The range of wine styles offered in Burgundy rivals that of any other region. In Chablis, Chardonnay is left unoaked to produce lean, crisp, steely wines with incredible acidity - a far cry from the vanilla-oak bombs that so many consumers associate with this grape. Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....

Beaujolais

Beaujolais is the classic expression of the Gamay grape. These red wines (labeled simply “Beaujolais”) are approachable, grapey, and fun – ideal for low-pressure sipping. Beaujolais-Villages is a step up. Compared to basic Beaujolais, the rules for Beaujolais-Villages wines are more strict. Villages wine is produced in far smaller quantities. Beaujolais Nouveau is perhaps the most gulpable wine made anywhere, and it should be drunk very soon after its release, which occurs each year on the...
