Staff Pick Notes

Matassa’s Coume de l'Olla Rouge is as pure a wine as I’ve ever tasted. It’s a perfect example of how clean farming and low intervention winemaking make a product that makes you understand that in your glass you have, simply, fermented grape juice. The wine is a blend of red Grenache, white Macabeu, and Grenache Gris. All grapes are co-fermented, then given a 3-day maceration. The wine is then transferred to age in concrete. Not a single chemical is ever added to the soils, vines, or the juice. In the glass, the wine shows a cloudy and bright magenta complexion. On the nose and palate, it sings of bright red berries, roses, straw, and yeast. It is supported by juicy acidity and minerality. All the elements reveal themselves in quiet zen-like harmony. You'll want this in your glass for your wine down time.
