Staff Pick Notes

With such a minimalist label and not much information about it in cyberspace, you've just got to open this bottle up to discover it. I'm sure glad I did, because it's my new favorite Armenian wine in the store. This was born from 150 year old vines in the mountainous, sparsely populated province of Vayots Dzor in Southern Armenia, which is home to the tiny town of Areni from which the native grape gets its name. Unlike many Armenian wines that err on the riper, oakier side, this red sees no oak, no added sulphur, and is as fresh as can be. Peppery, savory, and chock full of gorgeous dark red fruit flavors, this medium bodied gem is simply begging to come over for dinner. Very good stuff.
