Alvarinho, Casa do Capitão - 2023

Item # 41150 750 mL

From the northernmost area of Portugal just a stone's throw from Spain you'll find Monção. This is where the family's Alvarinho vines are planted and where you'll find a different expression of the said grape that's distinctly Portuguese: medium-bodied, beautifully aromatic and dry on the palate.

Staff Pick Notes

Seafood? Why not? Alvarinho? Definitely! The sibling of Albarinho from Galicia, it was my everyday wine all last summer. With a bright, pale yellow hue, Alvarinho captivates the senses with its alluring aromas of ripe peaches, citrus, and subtle floral notes. On the palate, it offers a refreshing acidity and a luscious texture, making it both invigorating and balanced. The wine's mineral undertones reflect the coastal influence, while a hint of salinity adds complexity. Try it with New England clam chowder. It will blow your mind!

The thick-skinned grapes thrive in the cool, windy climates of Galicia and northern Portgual, yielding intensely aromatic wines with typical aromas of almonds, white flowers, and stone fruits; the best examples...
