Roger Groult Hydromel Cask Finish Calvados

Not sure we've ever come across a more charming Calvados. We already consider this 5th generation producer to be in the vanguard of brandy production but what the young Jean Roger is doing with his special cask maturations is proving to be some of the most exciting developments of the past decade in the Pay D'Auge. Made entirely with estate fruit, the eau de vie was matured for a total of 8yrs with a special finish in a rare Hydromel cask from Canada that previously held sweet nectar like honey wine. There is a melange of apple fruit at the core that radiates out of the glass accompanied by notes of brown butter, sweet carmelized root vegetables, coconut shell, banana toffee, cinnamon and white tea. An exemplary spirit in every facet.
