Zsolt Sütó cultivates 12 hectares of vines in the village of Strekov, in Slovakia. The vineyards are terraced, featuring ponds and marshland that creates a unique microclimate. Made from a cross of Alicante and Cab Sauvignon called Alibernet. Pulpy, pure with endless aromas of dark fruits and tannins that are resolved yet present. The name is a whimsical combination of the words friendly and red.

Looking for a friendly red? Then Fred's got your back. A playful combination of friendly and red, Fred embodies everything I love about wine. Lively, bright, fruit forward and with just the right amount of funk. Made from Alibernet, a grape I'd never heard of and am now obsessed with, this wine has all the best parts of Cabernet Sauvignon: pulpy blackberry, a light stemmy/brambly quality, and well integrated tannin. Alicante Bouschet, one of the rare red-fleshed grapes, brings deep color and savory black pepper. Fred #5 is the fifth release of this non-vintage, easy drinking wine - born out of winemaker Zsolt Sütó's desire for lighter bodied, lower tannin, lower alcohol, and lower priced reds versus the wines that Slovakia is known for. I can't wait for #6!
