Morgon "Cuvée N", Marcel Lapierre - 2023

750 mL
Item # 40040

This bottling, the Cuvée N", from the Marcel Lapierre domaine, has not been sulphured at any point. Signified by the N on the back label. The late Marcel Lapierre took over his family's estate in 1973. Little did he know that he was on the road to becoming a legend, especially after connecting with Jules Chauvet - the father of natural winemaking.

Staff Pick Notes

For a few years now, Domaine Lapierre has released two versions of their venerable Morgon, one with a touch of SO2 added at bottling, and one without. Zero SO2 is used elsewhere in the vinification, and both wines are otherwise identical. I had the good fortune to blind taste them side by side; while they’re both total stunners, the unsulphured bottle was just a bit more lifted, with greater concentration and precision of its intense cherry and white pepper spark. The difference was like testing your eyewear prescription, and seeing the world that much sharper with the right one. Perhaps there’s a chance this bottle won’t show as well the next day, but I don’t know a soul who’d leave juice behind anyhow. Come see clearly now why this is one of the most celebrated wines in the world!

Burgundy

The range of wine styles offered in Burgundy rivals that of any other region. In Chablis, Chardonnay is left unoaked to produce lean, crisp, steely wines with incredible acidity - a far cry from the vanilla-oak bombs that so many consumers associate with this grape. Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....

Beaujolais

Beaujolais is the classic expression of the Gamay grape. These red wines (labeled simply “Beaujolais”) are approachable, grapey, and fun – ideal for low-pressure sipping. Beaujolais-Villages is a step up. Compared to basic Beaujolais, the rules for Beaujolais-Villages wines are more strict. Villages wine is produced in far smaller quantities. Beaujolais Nouveau is perhaps the most gulpable wine made anywhere, and it should be drunk very soon after its release, which occurs each year on the...
