Garganega "Lazaro," Masiero - 2020

750 mL
Item # 38285

A structured orange wine made from old Pergola trained Garganega vines. The wine spends 100 days macerating on the skins and six months in marble tank. A deep amber color in the glass, musky aromas and structured tannins on the finish. Zero sulphur added. While this wine is not for everyone, it will please the adventurous palate and can take the place of red wines at the table.

Production Methods

Natural

Wine made from organically or biodynamically grown grapes with minimal intervention avoiding the use of chemicals, additives and technology.

Orange Wine (Skin Contact)

Orange wine is made by using white wine grapes, which are pressed and left in contact with the skins, seeds, and stems for an extended period of time, similar to how red wine is made.

This prolonged maceration extracts color, tannins, and phenols, giving the wine a darker, sometimes orange color. It also produces a wine with more structure and intense flavor.

Maceration times can vary between a few hours to many months, with longer contact giving more color and extraction.

Staff Pick Notes

Made by the hands, the heart, the soul of Giulia Masiero, the eldest daughter of Franco Masiero. This 2015 is her first vintage. I cannot begin to express the overwhelming amount of gratitude, joy and love I feel for this woman. I feel as if she is a kindred spirit of mine. A lost friend. I did not intend for this to be a love letter to the Masiero family, to Giulia, but sometimes it seems as if admiration will swallow you whole if you do not let it out. Garganega is a white grape native to a beautiful region in Veneto, Italy. Brassy in color, with over 3 months of skin contact. It smells like the first few steps into the fields that you drive past on long car rides to see displaced family. Cool air pouring over your claustrophobic skin. The smell of cattle in spring and apricot jam.
