This Chardonnay is sourced from a warmer site in the Sierra Foothills. Nervy acidity and great minerality with bright citrus fruit and a touch of pastry. Juice was transferred to neutral barrels and fermentation occurred spontaneously. Limited quantity produced. Winemaker Michael Cruse is a rising star in the California wine scene and we are impressed with the quality and purity of his wines.

Staff Pick Notes

Before you go on dismissing Chardonnay from California because some “somm” told you to do so, you must treat yourself to a bottle of the Cruse Wine Co’s. This wine exudes an elegance and grace that defies your old suburban auntie’s oak bomb. Fruit comes from 50 year old vines from the Rorick Vineyard in the Sierra Foothills. The vineyard elevation is at 2000 feet and the soils are schist and limestone. Fermented and aged for 10 months in neutral oak. These elements contribute to the wine’s freshness and minerality. The wine smells of yellow and green apples, fresh pineapple, and white flowers. The mouthfeel is slick and substantial. It is easy enough as an aperitif yet it will sing with a slice of Normandy Camembert.
