Staff Pick Notes

The 2015 vintage was extraordinary in Burgundy, drawing comparisons with the stellar 2005. This is especially true for the reds, which are generally rich and powerful, showing ample fruit from the warm, sunny summer. What's notable too, however, is the acidity and concentration. This Beaune from the Rossignols is an exquisite example of the vintage from a fine premier cru vineyard. It leads with a burst of bright fresh red fruit woven with a hint of earthiness and a mineral core. For being so young it's surprising drinkable now with the fine tannins providing just the merest grip. A great wine for the holiday table, an elegant match with turkey, goose, or pork.

Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....
