Staff Pick Notes

Previously regarded amongst the most esteemed vineyards of Burgundy, Clos de la Perriere is a 1er Cru vineyard in Fixin, often dismissed as a rustic counterpart to Gevrey-Chambertin. It's now a monopole (a rarity in Burgundy) owned by the Joliet family for six generations. Benigne Joliet currently runs the estate and has made improvements since he took over: organic farming, delayed pruning to combat frosts, and the intention to stop tilling. He makes one red and one white from this fabled land. The red is a combination of four distinct parcels and aged in French oak for up to 2 years. It's drinking so easily in its youth: radiating with heady ripe plum, blackberry, with intermingling spice, with a sultry body that really envelops the palate with lush texture.

Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....
