Cabernet Sauvignon "Palazzotto", Maculan - 2020

Item # 37370 750 mL

Hillside vineyards and volcanic and tuffa-based soils dominate the terrain of the wines from the Maculan winery. This is a delightful Cabernet Sauvignon that is reminiscent of a lively Bordeaux however the soil composition makes it a unique wine as the mineral is almost peppery. The wine was aged for a year in French oak (50/50 new and used barrels). For three generations the Maculan family has been selecting and vinifying the best grapes in Breganze - a small town, northeast of Verona.

Staff Pick Notes

A few things about this wine captured my attention when I sat down to try it. The gorgeous color. A smooth cover of cassis on the nose. Flavors of pepper and herbs, as if I were tasting a well-seasoned entrée. The palate is velvet, elegant, and understated. When I think of cabernet sauvignon, my mind goes to Bordeaux, to Napa, and not at all to Italy or the Veneto. My mistake. Palazzotto is an exquisite rendition of this noble grape and an admirable expression of terroir. Not only that, you needn't wait years to enjoy this bottle, it's already displaying traits of maturity. Pair this wine with a full Italian feast.
