Item # 37023

The Passerina grape is native to the Marches region of Italy and is a grape that can make lively, aromatic white wines such as this one. The mineral is prominant and the aromas are floral in nature. Unoaked. The Tenuta Santori is a young winery in the heart of the Piceno hills of Ripatransone with 30 hectares of a combination of vines and olive groves. The chalk based soils are evident in the fresh profile of this wine.

Staff Pick Notes

I'm always on the hunt for new and interesting varietals that I have not encountered previously, and this Passerina from Tenuta Santori takes the cake! The Passerina grapes for this wine come from the Offida DOCG in the Marche region of central Italy. Two points immediately came to my mind when I tried this wine: 1.) This would be a perfect alternative to Chablis, as there is noticeable wet-stone minerality on the palate. 2.) I am surprised that this wine is not as popular as it should be as it is highly crowd pleasing and incredibly delicious. Expect flavors and aromas of white peach, nectarine, green apple, and white floral notes and a refreshing level of acidity that is akin to a Loire Sauvignon Blanc or a Verdicchio from Marche.

More About This Wine

Marches

This region lies on Italy’s Adriatic Coast, so much of its cuisine is seafood-based. Marches is best-known for its white wines. Red wines are produced here as well, with Sangiovese being the dominant red grape in the region. When blended with the local Montepulciano, it makes a wine called Rosso Piceno (mostly sangiovese) or Rosso Conero...
