Ménetou-Salon Blanc, Dom. de Champarlan - 2023

Item # 34967 750 mL

Menetou-Salon is a small region in the central part of the Loire Valley due west of Sancerre. It is a great source of Sauvignon Blanc in white iterations and, in this vintage, has really blown us away with the fruit profile and mineral structure. Winemaker David Girard started the domaine when he was 20 years old in 2003 and today has a mere 2 ha of vines in this region.

Staff Pick Notes

David Girard started the Domaine in 2003 when he was only 20 years old. He is the vintner creating elegant wines from Menetou-Salon. All his wines are made traditionally on stainless tanks and aging on lees. Located directly southwest of Sancerre, this relatively small appellation produces a similar range of high-quality wines that offer excellent value. This wine has a pale straw yellow apperance, it has a vibrant and aromatic nose, with citrus fruit and mineral notes. Medium-bodied and round palate, with menthol accents coupled with an elegant acidity

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.

Sauvignon Blanc

Cat pee aside, Sauvignon Blanc (sometimes called "Fumé Blanc" in California) is a bit of a chameleon in terms of style, and quite utterly at the whim of the winemaker. Some are fermented in barrel, others in stainless steel. Some...
