Production Methods

Practicing Organic

Wine made from grapes grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides in the vineyard.

Staff Pick Notes

When it comes to terroir-driven champagnes, few producers stand out like Alexandre Chartogne. With a total vineyard area of a mere 11.5 hectares, much of what Chartogne produces are single-parcel wines that expressly exhibit the unique aspects of their soils. The Heurtebise parcel, located in the village of Merfy, consists of 35-year-old vines on calcareous sandy soils, and from it Chartogne-Taillet produces a blanc de blancs that exudes elegance. The wine is driven by stony minerality, yet is exquisitely balanced with notes of meyer lemon zest, orchard apples, and walnuts. The mousse is crisp and light on the palate, with a clean yet still lengthy finish. This is truly an example of grower champagne at its finest.

It is a flexible, eager-to-please grape, responding well to just about anything a winemaker...
