Colkegan American Single Malt Whiskey

Founded By Colin Keegan in 2010 with the intention of becoming the premier distillery in the American Southwest, with the help of Head Distiller John Jeffrey (originally of Death's Door), Santa Fe Spirits is poised to do just that. The Colkegan Single Malt is a melding of tradition and innovation, a smart mix of old world and new. The standard two-row barley is distilled twice in small pot stills but only after having been kiln-dried with mesquite wood! Maturation takes place in a variety of oak casks that include new American white oak as well as used bourbon barrels. The opening notes are reminiscent of walking into a world class barbecue. But while the smoke is a focus here, it is never too much, not quite as aggressive as Balcones Brimstone for example. The result is a great whiskey with a good balance of smoke and malt and additional notes of beeswax, sugarloaf, and prickly pear. Very exciting new craft spirit.
