Staff Pick Notes

Natalie and Hervé Petitot make up what is today Domaine Petitot, one of my favorite producers in Burgundy. Hervé oversees the vineyard work while Natalie is in charge of the wine cellar, however both are trained oenologists. The Petitot family have been farmers in Burgundy for five generations, but it wasn't until 1975 that they began the transition into winemaking. Fast forward 50 years and today we have a masterclass of a domaine that farms a selection of tiny parcels throughout the Côtes de Beaune and Côtes de Nuits. They also use native yeasts to ferment their wines, bottling them unfiltered to preserve all of the aromas and flavors from the vintage. This bottling is from one of the smallest parcels I have seen, a .14 ha site in Savigny-lès-Beaune that produces a perennial favorite here at Astor for its aroma and flavor.

Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....
