Cala Cala Red, Calabretta - NV

They say “cala cala” means “gulp gulp” in Italian. I don’t speak Italian, so I wouldn’t know. But I can tell you that this wine drinks so nicely that you would have a hard time not gulping this down. Like nearly all of the wines I endorse, the vines at Calabretta are farmed organically and the wine is made with a hands off approach. The Cala Cala is a blend of wines from various vintages which explains the “NV”. Dried cherries, juicy plums, and violets show themselves on the nose and palate. You’ll find a touch of smoke and plenty of minerality from the volcanic soils. Some dusty tannins will tickle your palate. The wine is partially aged in large casks and also stainless. There is freshness and structure happening simultaneously.
