Viña Zorzal, Graciano - 2021

Item # 29755 750 mL

Graciano is a local red grape that is the last to be harvested in their vineyards around the village of Corella. The wine ferments in steel and then aged on the lees for 9 months in French barrels. Brothers Xabi, Iñaki and Mikel Sanz created Viña Zorzal in 2007, taking advantage of their long history and tradition as a winemaking family yet now focus on single parcels and vineyards and grapes in the subzone of Fitero.

Staff Pick Notes

Graciano is native to the mineral-laden soils of Navarra, a DO in northern Spain vinifying international and local varietals. In neighboring Rioja you can find graciano employed as a "seasoning" grape in its famous tempranillo-based blends, adding fragrance and body to these age-worthy wines. Until recently, it was difficult to find graciano bottled as a single varietal and it was often pricey if indeed procured. I found this wine to be the perfect weeknight table wine: full-bodied, worth exploring in my glass, and very easy to drink. Enjoy a chance to examine how the characteristics of a grape, like graciano's powerful attack and quick retreat, contribute to the ultimate balance of some blends.
