Chinon Rosé, Bernard Baudry - 2024

750 mL
Item # 28542

Very light, delicate. Strawberry nose and palate, with a floral, citrus, stone mid-palate. There is nice complexity here, but only if you are careful to look for it; otherwise, it comes across as a wonderful but simple, high-toned summer sippers.

Production Methods

Practicing Organic

Wine made from grapes grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides in the vineyard.

Staff Pick Notes

Bernard Baudry built his estate around family vineyards in the early 80's. Now his son, Mathieu cares for the vines and winemaking. Through the years, they've always farmed organically and vinified their wines by hand. The grapes are pressed whole cluster then fermented and aged in concrete tanks. The wine smells of white flowers and watermelon. The palate has a lively, mouthwatering acidity, and flavors of fresh red berries. It’s laced with a flinty minerality and shows a touch savory cucumber. It’s a great refresher for a summer afternoon.

The winery is located along the Vienne river, which is...

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. Cabernet Franc has remained close to its roots in France, enjoying small pockets of popularity primarily in the Loire Valley (specifically in Chinon), where it is often bottled as a varietal wine, and in Bordeaux where it is still used in moderate percentages in the typical blends. In fact,...
