Braulio Amaro

Item # 28369 1 L

By popular demand, this legendary amaro from Italy is finally available stateside for the first time ever. Braulio is made in the true Alpine style from a venerated estate begun by Francesco Peloni over a century ago. Located in Valtellina, near the border with Switzerland, this amaro is made from a secret recipe of over 20 mountain herbs and botanicals, which are gathered and used to create this one-of-a-kind spirit. Foresty, herbaceous, and piney, with a floral character and a distinct menthol note. Intense concentration with a touch of medicinal spice that speaks to the original purposes of these ancient potions. Very refreshing, with a pungent bitterness.

Staff Pick Notes

This amaro comes from the ski town of Bormio in Valtellina. It has been produced for over 140 years. The name comes from a mountain just above this touristy town. Most of the flowers, herbs, and roots used for this amaro are picked from the mountain or around it. On the nose, you’ll find typical alpine flavors of clove, liquorice, and blackberry. On the palate, there’s dried fruit, gentian, juniper, mint, and bark. This drink is more bitter than many other amaros, but it’s still pleasantly sweet. It really smells like the mountains I used to hike with my family when I was a child. A very popular after-meal drink in Italy, usually drunk with only an ice cube.
