Ladoix Blanc, Dom. d'Ardhuy - 2023

Item # 28082 750 mL

Just released, this young Chardonnay surprises with its high-toned aromas of pears, smoke, and yellow plums. A firm, citrus acidity streaks through, finishing soft and clean, with lingering notes of marzipan. Domaine d'Ardhuy works with a deep respect for terroir, focusing on cultivating living soils in their vineyards, which stretch from Puligny-Montrachet to Gevrey-Chambertin.

Staff Pick Notes

This textural marvel of a wine offers a wonderful full-bodied quaff, yet is restrained by a lovely citrus-tinged acidity. The grapes used in this Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc blend come from over 30 year-old vines carefully tended to with minimal intervention, low yields, and delicate techniques to preserve fresh fruit flavors. Barrel fermentation in 15% new oak and an extended aging on the lees contribute to the rich, silky texture of this wine. Aromas of citrus, flowers, pear, stone fruits, with a hint of smoke make for a great sensory experience. Pair with a creamy cheese, lighter fish, chicken with mushrooms and cream for a fantastic meal. One of my favorite Burgundian bargains!

During a huge popularity surge beginning in the late 1980s, Chardonnay plantings have increased dramatically -- not only in California's wine country, with which the variety is nearly synonymous, but also in Burgundy (its original, Old World home) and just about everywhere else in the winemaking world. It is a flexible, eager-to-please grape, responding well to just about anything a winemaker...
