Barbaresco Riserva "Boito," Rizzi - 2016

Item # 27558 750 mL

The Riserva Barbaresco from the Rizzi winery has spent extra years in cask rounding out the Nebbiolo tannins and making this an incredibly elegant wine with a core of red fruit. While it is drinking well in its youth, clearly this wine will improve for another 10 years in the cellar.

Staff Pick Notes

Power and elegance… these are exactly the words that come to mind when I think of great Barbaresco. Comprised of fruit grown on vines that are up to 40 years old, this Barbaresco has everything I love about the Nebbiolo grape: firm, velvety tannins; notes of cherry, tobacco, and crushed violets; and a seductive rusticity. Robust and masculine, yet very approachable in its youth, this has a solid concentration of fruit rounding out its rough tannic edge. This is the type of bottle you buy at least two of: one for tonight, and one for 15-20 years from now… and perhaps a few more for the years in between.

Several other Piedmontese grapes make striking and delicious wines: Pelaverga produces light-colored reds with distinctive notes of strawberry, cherry, and pink peppercorn. The red Freisa is vinified in a variety of styles:...
