Ch. Peybonhomme-Les-Tours, Le Blanc Bonhomme - 2022

Item # 27446 750 mL

This Bordeaux is a blend of the Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. A fuller-bodied dry white wine that stands out thanks to the depth of it's aromas, texture and body. The richness is no doubt from the ripe Sémillon fruit, the freshness and aromas due to the Sauvignon Blanc. Lively on the palate and remarkably pure. The Hubert family settled at the Château Peybonhomme-Les-Tours in the village of Cars in 1895, and six generations have followed since.

Staff Pick Notes

Chateau Peybonhomme has to be amongst the top of the world list of quality to price ratio. The estate is currently run by the 5th generation of the Hubert family. All of their vines are farmed organically and biodynamically. The soils are clay on top of limestone. Here’s a wine made from a 50-50 blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Out of the glass, it has a nice golden color and an olive oil viscosity. It smells of roasted pineapple, apples, and a tinge of pine. The mouthfeel has weight and slickness and a brisk acidity appears mid palate. 40% of the wine is fermented in new oak and the rest in concrete. Lovely with a wedge of Aged Comté cheese.

Glossary

Sauvignon Blanc

Few varietals have spawned as bizarre a list of descriptors as Sauvignon Blanc. Believe it or not, “cat pee” is in fact a complimentary tasting note, associated with some of the best bottlings. (It’s a somewhat odd way of pointing out herbaceousness in the wine.) Cat pee aside, Sauvignon Blanc (sometimes called "Fumé Blanc" in California) is a bit of a chameleon in terms of style, and quite utterly at the whim of the winemaker. Some are fermented in barrel, others in stainless steel. Some...

Bordeaux

Situated on the mid-Atlantic coast of France around the Gironde river, Bordeaux is home to some of the most legendary wines on earth. There are (for all intents and purposes) five grape varieties permitted under French wine law for red Bordeaux: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and, very infrequently, Petit Verdot and Malbec. For white Bordeaux, only three varieties are permitted: Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillion, and Muscadelle. The exact percentages of each grape variety used in any...
