Barolo "Pie Rupestris", Cappellano - 2019

750 mL
Item # 27220

The Barolos of Serralunga are known for their generosity and warmth and the “Rupestris” is as fine an example as one can find. From the Gabuti Cru vineyards of Serralunga d'Alba, honest rugged earth, truffle and mushroom aromas dominate. Here, only a solid decant will make this wine accessible; a true rustic Barolo.

Staff Pick Notes

It was a rare treat to taste this wine, one of Teobaldo Cappellano’s final vintages. This classically styled Barolo comes from Nebbiolo vines that are 60+ years old, and was produced by one of Barolo’s most respected and influential wine artisans. Still in its infancy, this wine shows the obvious signs of greatness. Leather and a hint of roses rise up from the glass, signaling the classic notes of this majestic terroir (the vines are grown on the famed Gabutti vineyard in Serralunga). Still a bit closed with flavors of ripe cherries, this wine nonetheless shows stunning concentration. With muscular but developed tannins and plenty of acidity, this wine has all of the raw materials to evolve into a powerhouse Barolo over the next 15-20 years. Definitely an investment, but one well worth the wait.
