Staff Pick Notes

Roland Velich of Moric and Hannes Schuster of the Rosi Schuster winery have been collaborating for years, and had the idea to start a project called Jagini, a winery that would produce one wine only. While most old Blaufrankisch vineyards were torn out and replanted with the more vigorous Zweigelt in the 70s, the vineyards in Zagersdorf, now 55 to 100 years old, survived and are still under Schuster ownership. Some are so old that they carry only one or two clusters. This wine has immense concentration and complexity without giving up even an inch on elegance and freshness. Characteristic aromas and flavors of bing cherry and summertime plum skin combined with fine minerality and soft tannins are the hallmarks of Jagini, and the 2011 is one of its best examples. Ready for you right now, but don’t forget to grab a few for the cellar.

Blauer Zweigelt), which yields full-bodied wines, deep in color and featuring bold flavors of...
