Vouvray Moëlleux Réserve, Foreau - 2015

750 mL
Item # 25694

It is the rare vintage that is blessed with the conditions necessary for Foreau to release a Moelleux Réserve. Wines so declared frequently have levels of residual sugar that are in excess of 150 grams of residual sugar. It is not, however, simply the level of ripeness that creates the Moelleux Réserve; it is as much the conditions of the growing season that produce grapes that have a level of complexity and ripeness that demand this sort of classification.

Staff Pick Notes

Phillipe Foreau is the 3rd generation vigneron of the Domaine du Clos Naudin in Vouvray. They are one of the benchmark wineries in the village, which includes Huet and Pinon. He farms organically and uses natural methods in the cellar. The Moelleux Reserve is only made in the ripest vintages. Right now, this is the latest vintage the wine has been produced. The wine appears amber (from years of aging) in the glass and somewhat viscous in texture. It smells of honeysuckle, citrus, and raisins. It has the acidity that retains a refreshing feel. Flavors burst on your palate as if you sunk your teeth into a ripe pear that’s been soaking in honey and citrus. It’s a wine to remember. Now I know many of you are afraid of sweet wine, that’s fine cuz that means more for me.

More About This Wine

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.

Chenin Blanc

A versatile grape that is grown worldwide, but is most commonly associated with the Loire, California, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. It produces just about any type of wine you can think of: ageworthy dessert wines; delicious, honeyed dry whites; sparklers; and even bases for fortified wines and spirits. These days, one of the most exciting stories is in South Africa, where newly adopted winemaking technologies have helped a dedicated group of producers to bring the country's dry...
