Punch alla Fiamma, Varnelli

Item # 25539 1 L

With a base of rum from Martinique, sourced exclusively for the Varnelli family for ages, the addition of spices and sugar make this a most complex spirit indeed. Traditionally served warm in the winter time, there are a million uses for this special elixir. The rum really shines through at first then slowly notes of brown sugar, cinnamon buns, bubblegum, and sugar-coated caramels converge. The palate is lined with baking spices and vanilla extract with a drying finish. Wow.

Staff Pick Notes

"What you gonna do when you get out of jail? I'm gonna have some fun. What do you consider fun? Fun, natural fun." The Tom Tom Club's 1981 smash hit Genius of Love has been sampled in no fewer than two Mariah Carey singles. I mention all of this because Varnelli's Punch Alla Fiamma is also a pop confection. This is the Fantasia version, and it is indeed a bit sweet. I wouldn't recommend drinking a warm cup of this while riding the Cyclone at Coney Island, but it is traditionally served warm. It shines as an addition to a nice cup of coffee, with its brown sugar, bubblegum, and spice notes really making these dark, cold days pop a bit. You'll be in heaven too!

Marches

This region lies on Italy’s Adriatic Coast, so much of its cuisine is seafood-based. Marches is best-known for its white wines. Verdicchio produced near the towns of Jesi and Matelica often has gently bitter notes and rich fruit, and is an excellent match for many seafood dishes. Red wines are produced here as well, with Sangiovese being the dominant red grape in the region. When blended with the local Montepulciano, it makes a wine called Rosso Piceno (mostly sangiovese) or Rosso Conero...
