High West Double Rye

As a start-up distillery (the first in Utah since Prohibition), High West has had to tackle the same problem every other new distiller deals with: good whiskey takes time to mature, but nobody wants to sit on casks for six to eight years while losing money. Many producers choose to bottle and sell whiskeys made by larger distillers under their own names. Proprietor David Perkins chose a different approach, sourcing several whiskeys and producing his own blends. In the case of the Double Rye!, we have a 16 year married to a two year rye, creating a seriously harmonious blend with plenty of depth, richness, and complexity from the 16 year, with a fresh and lively kick from the two year. This whiskey is a great sipper at this price. I enjoy the Double Rye! neat, with a fat ice cube, or even a little warmth from a fireplace poker.
